Robin Butler, is the owner of a curl based salon in Durham, NC. She would often hears stories about hair and quickly recognized that the curl stories would go much deeper than the hair itself, deeper than any style or look. Robin's clients would often tell her how meaningful their hair was to them, what it represents in their view of themselves and how it connected to their whole identities.

Everyday behind the styling chair, Robin services little girls from the age of 4 to adult women beyond the age of 54. One commonality between them all including Robin is "Childhood". This stage of life is so crucial in building a solid foundation of confidence and self esteem.

During the pandemic, Robin decided to solve a different problem for her clients while the salon was shut down for 3-months. She saw the opportunity to address the demonstrated need for more diverse toys and representation in children’s publishing authored by a licensed beauty professional. The journey of Coil Beauty Dolls with Books was then birthed.

Creator, Designer and Author Robin Butler serves as a licensed cosmetologist and natural hair teacher in NC. Robin is a graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with an BA in Economics and Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology. She is also a Level 3 Devacurl Certified Stylist and national educator with the popular Devacurl brand. Robin’s passion stems from her own coily hair as it was a driving force to create this special book and toy collection.
